The participants will learn the following: family systems theory; the family dynamics of extended families; mental health issues in a family context; the complex process of divorce; attachment in family relationships; child development; reasons for separation and divorce; decisions to separate; the impact of separation and divorce on children and adults; understanding the “politics” of separation; traditional aspects of separation and divorce; restructuring of the family from chaos to stability; parenting relationships after separation and divorce; assessing the depths of the “wound”; and understanding the grieving process.
